Website annotation guide
Website annotation tool for client reviews
Point to the part of a website you want changed and leave a comment there. DesignLoop keeps the original screenshot with your request for the person making the update.
Website annotation means adding a comment to a specific part of a web page. You can identify an image to replace, suggest a new heading, or flag a layout issue where it appears.
In DesignLoop, clients open a shared review link and leave comments on the website. They do not need to create an account. Each comment keeps a screenshot of what they saw, so the request remains understandable after the page changes.
How to annotate a website
- Open the review link and browse to the page you want to discuss. If the issue appears on a phone, review it at that size.
- Choose Comment, select the relevant area, and describe the change you want.
- For wording changes, use Copy mode to select the words, then choose Suggest and enter the replacement. Choose Strike to request removal.
- Attach a reference image when it helps explain the intended result, then post the feedback.
Keep separate requests in separate comments. A new heading and an image replacement can then be reviewed and completed independently.
Write a request someone can act on
For an image change, a useful comment could be:
Replace the photo at the top of the About page with the attached team photo. Keep everyone’s face visible on mobile.
For a wording change, select the original text and supply the exact replacement:
Change “Contact sales” to “Book a demo.” Keep the existing link.
These examples state the expected result. The selected page area and saved screenshot show where the request belongs.
Four common annotation methods
| Method | Useful when | What you share | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screenshot markup | You need to discuss one fixed view | An image with notes | Include the page link and say when the screenshot was taken. |
| Browser extension | Your team reviews many websites | Comments or marked screenshots | Check which reviewers need to install it and whether it works on their devices. |
| Installed feedback tool | Your team manages the website | Feedback left through a button on the site | The site owner needs to arrange setup. |
| Shared review link | Clients need one place to leave comments | A website review with comments beside the relevant area | Check that the pages you want reviewed open correctly before sharing. |
DesignLoop provides a shared review link. Open it yourself before sending it to a client, especially when the website has sign-in screens or content that appears only after an interaction.
Keep the original request available
The original screenshot remains available with the comment after the website changes. You can return to the wording or image that prompted the request when checking the finished work.
For an issue that appears only when a menu opens or a button is pressed, describe that action in the comment. A reference image can help show the state you mean.
Share the review and check the changes
The owner can share the same review link with everyone taking part. Anyone with the link can view the review. Clients identify themselves as guests before commenting, and their comments stay with the current feedback round.
Once the changes are ready, use the website change checklist to check them against the original comments. The owner decides which requests are complete and which need another pass.
If you are choosing a tool for your agency, the website feedback overview covers review rounds, plans, and client access.
